THEO 104 Final Paper 2020
Introduction
As we approach the end of this course there were two words that really stood out to
me, love and mercy. Both of these work together. As a new believer it is very difficult
to comprehend how these are both shown to us from our father in heaven. Love
refers to God’s unconditional emotional state to us despite the fact we sin. Mercy on
the other hand is compassion that is given to us when we mess up. How amazing is
it to know that we have someone who loves us so much that he forgives us when we
mess up and still loves us.
Love
Theological
Love in simple biblical terms is caring for someone so much you would give your life
for him or her. This is an emotion that does not simply go away. In fact in 1 John we
are told that God is love. All because he gave his son to die for our sins we are able to
have this unconditional love and mercy for our father. During our readings in class
the topic of love was covered. In Etzel and Gutierrrez in chapter 31 we are told that
the greatest commandment is to love god and to lover others. While love is such a
broad term it is important to know that we can love because God first loved us.
Biblical
While there are numerous scriptures that could be used lets take a look at two of the
most important ones. One of the most well known comes from Corinthians 13:4-7,
